Assisted Care Facilities

Different Care Needs

There are many different kinds of assisted care facilities. Senior citizens sometimes go to these facilities when they need someone to look after them for minor to major duties. Most of the elderly people in assisted living facilities are capable of taking care of themselves, but need some assistance for other parts of their lives. This is where the assisted care facility comes into play. These facilities enable elderly adults to go about with their daily routines while remaining as independent as possible. What the assisted care facility provides is support in facets of life that the elderly person may not be able to adequately do on their own. These include giving the retired occupants breakfast, lunch, and dinner; dressing the inhabitants (if they can not do it on their own); laundry services and housekeeping; and providing health care support for occupants who may be suffering from the illnesses of aging. The types of assisted living facilities depends on the needs of the occupant.

Independent and Congregate Housing
There are several different kinds of assisted care facilities. For instance, some retired men and women may find that they want to, or are best suited to live in assisted care environments such as Independent Living or Congregate Housing. These different living options offer short term care for around 6 months, offering food, transport, and housekeeping. After the six month period, the occupants return back to normal life. These assisted care facilities are almost like a vacation, or a "try out" package. Furthermore, there are also places for seniors to stay long term, appropriately dubbed "long term care". These facilities are typically for the more mentally and physically debilitated patients. Health care practitioners look after the inhabitants of long term care facilities to a greater degree, providing medicine, therapy, treatment, and other specialized forms of attention each individual case may require.
Retirement Homes
For those looking to retire and don't have anywhere to stay because their children cannot house them, or they don't want to live alone, they can seek out the assistance of a retirement home. A retirement home offers senior citizens a place to relax and be taken care of as much as they require. These facilities are often community like, and have many other inhabitants for the retiree to get to know. This will help quell any difficulties during the integrity vs despair stage of life.
Senior Apartments
For those who do not want to be put into a community-like senior home, there are also assisted care facilities that offer independent living to a much greater degree. These facilities are known as Senior Apartments. In the senior apartments, the elderly will live in a more natural environment that is located in, or close to, the town where the retiree lived previously. This is to help with better assimilation into the new location, and to keep them close to their friends and/or family. These facilities assist the elderly in everyday facets of life, such as providing transportation, food delivery, laundry and other cleaning services, and medical treatment requirements.
Assisted care facilities like the ones mentioned above are great for the many different needs of the elderly.
